TIPS FOR CHOOSING YOUR NEW CARPET OR FLOOR
Choosing a new carpet or flooring is a big decision, and we know that it can be overwhelming when you’re faced with so many options. We want to help make that decision a bit easier for you, so here are some tips to aid you in selecting the right floor covering.
First, decide what flooring material you prefer, and what best suits your lifestyle. You likely have already decided whether you want the look of carpet, wood or tile in your space. However, there are different options for achieving these looks. For example, the look of a wood floor can be achieved through hardwood, laminate, or vinyl plank flooring. Talk to your salesperson to understand the benefits of each option, and which is best for you.
Once you’ve selected a product, usually the next decision is colour. This is often the most difficult part of the process because there are so many to choose from, and even a minor shade difference can have a big impact on your space.
To help you narrow down the colour selection in the store, bring something with you from home that will be in the room you are renovating. For example, a sofa cushion or pillow cover can help you to find colours that are complementary to your existing décor, and rule out shades that don’t coordinate.
Finally, once you’ve narrowed the selection down to a few contenders, it is important to take samples of the product home, so that you can look at the colour in your own lighting. This is a key part of the decision process, because colours will look different between the lighting in the store, and the lighting in your home. They can also change in appearance from day to night, so be sure to look at the samples at various times of the day.
